Q. Can I still register for HomeSource classes if my student is on the AllPrep waiting list?
A. Yes. We have assurance that there will be sufficient openings in AllPrep's web academies for our new families. When you submit your enrollment paperwork we will request confirmation from AllPrep that you are on their waiting list. We will confirm your entry into their system just before our classes begin to ensure that all our students are attending legally.

Q. Is my student too young to enroll in classes?
A. We follow the policy of the Bethel School District. If you student is not 5 years old by September 1st of the current school year, you will have to wait until the following school year.

Q. My student is on a waiting list for a HomeSource class, how does that work?
A. When we have reached the maximum number of students in a class we begin a waiting list. This list actually begins on registration night after we have opened the class to as many students as possible. The waiting list is on a first-come-first-served basis. When an opening is available the next person in line will be called and offered the seat. If we have to leave a message, we will give until the next morning before we contact the next one on the list. Waiting lists will be active only through alternate registration and the specified period of adds/drops that may follow. Waiting lists are not a guarantee your student will get into the class. Administration may decide to increase the maximum number of students in a class, but if so, the seats will be filled from the waiting list first.

Q. Who determines my student's grade level?
A. Guidelines for ESD require them to consider your student as having entered first grade at age 7. If you wish to challenge the grade level recorded at ESD you may do so. We are required, however, to list in our system the grade held in state records. If the grade you enter on your paperwork does not agree, you will be notified of our correction and may then contact ESD to change it. Testing is tied to grades, and HomeSource is required to administer tests at appropriate grades for core curriculum classes (identified in the Curriculum Guide).

Q. Is my student grandfathered, alt-ed, or charter?
A. HomeSource is a resource center for homeschooling families. Due to legislative restrictions, though, we serve our families through two avenues: as an alternative education program, and under contract with one or more charter school programs. Some of our students attended HomeSource prior to 7/1/2007 and are considered as "grandfathered" students under law. Basically, only grandfathered students and those who live in the Bethel school district may attend HomeSource directly. All other students must be enrolled in a charter program that contracts with HomeSource. If a student moves outside of the Bethel school district during the school year it may require the student to enroll in a charter program in order to continue attending HomeSource. HomeSource should be notified immediately of any change in status.

Q. Can I still enroll at HomeSource if I'm not sure I want to go through AllPrep?
A. Yes, as long as your student is in the Bethel school district or had attended HomeSource prior to 7/1/2007 (a grandfathered student). Students who are not grandfathered or who live in a district other than Bethel MUST enroll through a partner charter program in order to enroll at HomeSource.

Q. What is an exit interview with AllPrep, and what do I need from them?
A. Students using AllPrep (formerly W.E.C.A.) should each get an exit interview with the assigned teacher. Among other things, the teacher will ask if you plan to continue with the charter in the coming year, drop it, or are uncertain. Your indications here should be taken seriously as they will result in your student automatically being re-enrolled or dropped as the case may be. If you are not given a written confirmation of this status for the 2009-10 school year you should ask the teacher to relay the information to HomeSource via e-mail immediately. We must have confirmation of your status before we can accept your enrollment packet at HomeSource.

Q. When can I get a letter from ESD that my student is a qualified homeschooler?
A. The Lane ESD homeschool liaison, Michelle Martin, is only a part-time employee. She will be back in the ESD office August 15th to serve families. Please, show great patience and kindness to this important supporter of our program. Our relationship with this agency as homeschooling families is very important to HomeSource.
top
Q. Do I need a rejection letter from ESD?
A. Rejection letters apply to students who are at least 5 but not yet 7 years old by September 1st. The parent must apply for homeschooling status at the ESD. Because the student is not yet 7 a letter of rejection will be issued. This letter is only good for one school year. Even if your student is still in this category and a letter was submitted to us the previous year, you must still obtain a letter for the current school year.

Q. My student is going through AllPrep and is under 7. Does HomeSource still need a copy of the birth certificate?
A. Yes. We realize that AllPrep also requires this, but your records at HomeSource are not a part of AllPrep, so we also need a copy.

Q. What are the requirements for a tech password?
A. All students at HomeSource will be given a Betheltech e-mail address, computer network account, and Moodle account. An account consists of a username and password. A student's username is first name, last initial, and student number (e.g., John Doe with student number 2144 would be johnd2144). Our server requires minimum standards for password protection. This is important to prevent a user's e-mail account from being easily accessed. Here are the minimum requirements:
- Must be 7 or more characters (no spaces or punctuation)
- Must contain at least one number
- Must contain at least on letter
- The first letter will be capitalized. All others will be lower case.
- Cannot contain any part of the username

Q. What will happen if I do not meet the minimum requirements for a tech password?
A. If your password does not meet the above criteria or you exclude it from our enrollment paperwork, a temporary password will be assigned. You will then be assisted in creating a new password once classes begin.

Q. What is corporation membership?
A. HomeSource is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. As such, its member families may help determine the board of directors through an annual vote. While all member families can provide input at any time, corporation members show they wish to go on record with their support and have the power of the vote. Corporation members' e-mail and contact information is maintained in a directory, but this directory is not freely given out and is never sold or used for solicitation.

Q. What is the policy regarding teacher permission to register for a class? TPR for prerequisite approval, and grade range waiver.
A. Teacher's permission refers to a student's meeting prerequisite requirements, as would be expected in many upper-level classes. A grade level waiver is NOT a matter of teacher's permission. HomeSource operates multi-grade classrooms and provides many opportunities for students. Students enrolled at HomeSource in the grades listed in the curriculum guide are given priority for classes at main registration. Students who are no more than ONE GRADE below the specified grade range for a class may enroll for the class the first day of alternate registration if the teacher has given permission, NOT ON REGISTRATION NIGHT. Older students may enroll in classes for younger grades without special permission, if the parent determines this is an appropriate placement for the student and the student is not disruptive to the education of the other students in the classroom. If a student is more than one grade below the stated grade range, the parent and teacher may meet with the Educational Team (teacher, Curriculum Instruction Manager and Executive Director) to determine if a grade range waiver is in the best interest of the student and class. All TPR regarding prerequisite requirements must be requested and approved BEFORE registration.. All prerequisite approvals are subject to the Executive Director’s final approval or revocation. (Students given grade range waiver for year-long classes may pre-register as other students in the classes.) Students officially approved for a grade waiver may move to the next appropriate level with the students in the class. TPR forms are available at the front desk.
Note: Grades of students are determined by birth date and are only changeable through an official process through the school district or ESD. HomeSource may not change the grade of a student unless given an official change through either of those two agencies. For more information on that subject see the FAQ: Who determines my student's grade level?
